Japan takes lead
NZPA-Reuter Chiba, Japan Japan took the lead over New Zealand with a score of 446-448 after the second round of the fourth New Zealand-Japan amateur team golf match in Chiba, Japan, yesterday. The New Zealanders failed to maintain their four-stoke first-day advantage during a windy day’s play on the 6414 m, par-72 Takanodai Country Club course. Terry Cochrane fired the day’s best score of 73 but Michael Barltrop had a 76 and Colin Taylor and Brent Paterson both shot 78.
The Japanese team, trying to catch the visitors under cloudy and windy weather, scored 221 yesterday for a total of 446 after Kyotaka Oie and Kazuya Nakajima carded 73 and Keiichi Nagata had a 75. The final two rounds of the four-day competition will be played at the Narita Hightree Golf Club today. Scores:— Japan 446: Kiyotaka Oie 73, 73, 146; Kazuya Makajima 75, 73, 148; Keiichi Nagata 77, 75, 152; Shigenori Mori 79, 80,159. New Zealand 448: Terry Cochrane 73, 73, 146; Michael Barltrop 75, 76, Colin Taylor 73, 78, 151; Brent Paterson 78, 78, 156.
