New rugby managers

The Canterbury rugby team will be under fresh management this year. The side will be managed by Mr Craig Sullivan, with Mr Neil Gow as the liaison officer. They replace Messrs Murray Inglis and Les McFadden respectively, who filled the roles for most of 1982 and all of last year. In announcing the new appointments, the president of the C.R.F.U., Mr Merv Barnett, paid tribute to the work done by the outgoing pair. “Very few people realise

the time and effort that goes into managing a provincial rugby side and last winter the demands on them were enormous. The part they played in Canterbury’s success deserves to be recognised,” said Mr Barnett. He said the only reason that changes had been made was because the jobs are so onerous: “I think it only fair that they are passed around and Mr Inglis, in particular, is already heavily committed as chairman of the competitions committee.”
