First aid courses
PA Wellington Mr Blazey expressed concern about the lack of coaches attending first aid courses. He said it was quite wrong for coaches to believe that injuries occurred only in matches and therefore someone trained in first aid would be there. “As well all know, injuries occur in training, too, and I urge all unions to advise coaches to attend
first aid courses.” Mr Blazey’s comments related to injuries during 1983, not the present publicity over spinal injuries. The meeting also decided: that the laws of the game be presented more simply and clearly to create a modern image for referees, players and spectators; and that the International Rugby Board consider associate membership.
