Gang firearms seized

Police yesterday seized firearms from the properties of the two motor-cycle gangs which clashed in Timaru on Tuesday evening. Molotov cocktails were thrown at a house at 30 Lindsay Street at 9.38 p.m. where members of the Devil’s Henchmen were having a dinner party, a police spokesman said. The first bomb struck a car outside parked on the road and the second hit a car parked up the driveway of the house. Neither vehicle was seriously damaged.

The first man to get outside the house was hit in the leg by shotgun pellets.

A white station waggon, a

1966 or 1967 model, was seen heading west by a neighbour, who rang the police. The injured man, aged 26, was admitted to hospital with superficial wounds to the leg. No arrests have been made, but the police searched the Road Knights Motor-cycle Club’s headquarters in Theodosia Street, Timaru, and the Devil’s Henchmen’s headquarters in Washdyke and found some firearms yesterday. Residents have been asked to come forward with any information about the incident, and inquiries are proceeding.
