Council looks at alarm

The Lyttelton Borough Council is considering installing a security alarm after its council rooms were burgled for a third time in a fortnight.

Several transistor radios and a small sum of money were taken from the council’s showroom on Tuesday night.

The administration officer, Mr G. T. Broker, said radios and money had been taken as a result of burglaries at two previous

week-ends. Mr Broker said the council had consulted a security firm on improvement of the building’s security. Tony Victor Bartlett, aged 25, unemployed, and Charles Robert Edward Hinga, aged 33, a labourer, have been charged with Tuesday’s burglary. They were remanded at large without plea to April 18 when they appeared in the District Court yesterday.
