Land yacht successes

Members of the Pegasus Land Yacht Club finished a busy programme of racing at the week-end. There were more races this season than in the past, and club members competed with distinction at the national and South Island championships at Nelson. They won the national team trophy and filled most of the major placings, even in spite of a poor build-up, due to a lack of a suitable venue. The “45 South” class was the most affected by the lack of a good place to race, as the smaller wheels on the yachts caused more friction on the paddock surfaces. Ray Inns sailed well during the season to win the

championship from Allan Wylie and Grant Beardsly. The class five junior section was also keenly contested and won by Brendon Gwynne with Stephen Inns runner-up and Gwynn’s brother, Shane, third. Results:— Classes two, three and four: S. Rose 1, G. McKay 2, A. Wilkinson 3. Class five — men: R. Inns (Hornby) 1, A. Malaquin (Shirley) 2, J. Gywnne (Shirley) 3. Women: P. Cannard (St Martins) 1, C. Linney (Hoon Hay) 2, C. Rose (Mt Pleasant) 3. Juniors: B. Gwynne (Shirley) 1, S. Inns (Hornby) 2, S. Gwynne (Shirley) 3. Class 45 South: R. Inns (Hornby) 1, A. Wylie (Cashmere) 2, G. Beardsly (Papanui) 3.
