Pony clubs representatives

A six member team has been chosen to represent Can-terbury-Westland at the national pony club championships at Rotorua during May 10-12.

The Al section comprises Toni Morrissey (Carlos), Mark Adorian (Happy Jack) and Prue Chapman (High Time). In the DC section are Kate Crowe (Moonstone), Anne Nicoll (Zebadee) and Lynda Carlyon (Just April). Reserves are Simon Pain (Gdansk) and Michelle Peard (Stroller).

The third area trial was to have been held on the "Waituna” property of Mr D. Cameron, at Waikari, but due to seven inches of rain which deluged the farm a fortnight

before, the ground was too boggy to be safe. Consequently, Bullock Creek, the site of the second trial, was the venue for the third trial and the selections. Designed by Mr Stuart Wood, the cross-country course was centred around the creek that runs beside the Ensor homestead. Inevitably water jumps were a speciality of the imaginative and well-con-structed course, although they posed few problems for most competitors in the third trial, and the cross-country phase was over in record time. The show-jumping section took its toll, however, with a tight and winding course causing quite a few horses to drop

rails. This year’s team trainer is Jennifer Stobart, and the team manager will be Mr D. B. Pain. Results:— Al Class.—Dressage: P. Chapman’s High Time 1; T. Morrissey’s Carlos 2; M. Adorian’s Happy Jack 3; S. Pain’s Gdansk 4. Over-all: Carlos 1; Happy Jack 2; Gdansk 3; T. Skene’s D’Urville 4. DC Class—Dressage: J. Morrish’s Thor 1; K. Crowe’s Moonstone 2; L. Carlvon’s Just April 3; D. Hammond’s Cushendali Roderic 4. Over-all: Moonstone 1; Just April 2; M. Peard’s Stroller 3; S. Hom’s First Impression 4.
