Appeal fails
The Court of Appeal has dismissed an appeal by Barry Dennis McKeown against his conviction for the murder of an Akaroa pensioner, Miss Audrey Ellen Sedgley, in January, 1983.
The appeal was heard in Wellington before Justices Cooke, Somers and Hardie Boys on February 20 and their judgment against the appeal was delivered by Mr
Justice Cooke on Wednesday. In July, 1983, a High Court jury found McKeown, aged 23, guilty of the murder of his elderly neighbour and Mr Justice Roper sentenced him to life imprisonment.
At the appeal Mr N. W. Williamson appeared for the Crown, and Messrs D. I. Jones and D. F. Orchard appeared for McKeown.
