The position will be for 1984 with a possible extention to the end of 1985. Preference will be given to candidates with strengths in one or more of the following fields: Planning (urban and regional) Environmental Geography Natural Hazards Environmental Impact Assessment Remote Sensing Development Studies Marxist Approaches to Geography. Candidates with competence in other aras of human Geography will also be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to take up the position at the earliest possible date. Duties for 1984 will Include assisting In and contributing to a variety of human geography courses. Experience in applied studies would be an advantage since the Department encourages staff and students to work on practical problems related to the Development of Papua New Guinea. The successful applicant for this position will be required to teach courses In urban geography with emphasis on problems associated with urbanisation in developing countries. He/She will also be expected to contribute to introductory geography courses. He/she will be encouraged to undertake research. The Department maintains a cartographic unit and an extensive map and air photo collection ana has access to four wheel drive vehicles In many parts of the country to facilitate research. The successful applicant will be expected to take up duties by July 8, 1984.
