Dick seeks rugby post
PA Auckland The newly elected Auckland Rugby Union chairman, Malcolm Dick, will try and tip the man he succeeded, Ron Don, off the New Zealand union’s council.
Mr Don did not seek reelection as Auckland chairman — a post he has held from 1969 — but said yesterday he was still available for the council, New Zealand rugby’s top decisionmaking body.
Mr Don has been one of four North Island councillors since 1971, with the exception of one year when he was voted off. Mr Dick, a former All Black wing and recent president of the A.R.U., said yesterday he would seek nomination to the council. The A.R.U. is expected to make its nomination in a week or two. Should it back Mr Dick, Mr Don could still be nominated by another union.
