Hancock’s Half Hour
lunchtime theatre will be offered to patrons of the Repertory Theatre from tomorrow.
.-Mervyn Glue stars in a ope-man show, “Hancock’s Last Half Hour.” *The play is designed to give an insight into the character of Tony Hancock, the comic genius of the 1950 s radio. Hancock and Sid James developed a popular following in their show, “Hancock’s Half Hour.” ” Voted Comedian of the Year in 1959 Hancock was a man who never believed in his own worth. He was often
at odds with his writers. In the 1960 s he had a little film work but his lack of success drove, him to drink heavily.
He later required psychiatric help. The; drinking broke up his first marriage. In. 1968 he went to Australia to do a television programme about a pompous and disgruntled Pommie immigrant. He completed three episodes but committed suicide on June 24, 1968. Episodes of the radio show have recently been'
run. Lunch is available at the theatre from 12.15 p.m. and the play begins at 1.15 p.m.
