Single concert by violinist
Shizuka Ishikawa is an award-winning Japanese violinist, who has been playing since she was four.
At the age of 12 she won the National Music Competition for school children in Japan. After leaving school she went to Czechoslovakia to the Prague Academy of Music. In 1976 she returned to Japan as soloist with the Czechoslovakian Philharmonic Orchestra for her first public appearance in her home land.
Shizuka Ishikawa spent the next two years touring Japan and Europe, playing as soloist with the Czecho-
slovakian orchestra and Japanese orchestra. She has also recorded several albums. She will give one Christchurch Festival concert at the Christchurch Teachers’ College on Tuesday. She will be accompanied by Shoko Hamana on piano and will play Mozart, Greig, Paganini, Wieniawski and Ogura Rou.
