Girl tramper hurt in fall

PA Dunedin A girl, aged 16, is in Dunedin Hospital suffering head injuries after she and a companion fell into a stream in the Glenorchy area of Mount Aspiring National Park yesterday. Helena Johnson, of Hampden, and Paul Smith, aged 15, of Waikouaiti, were part of an East Otago High School tramp into the Invincible goldmine area, 300 m above the Rees Valley. Miss Johnson was taken to Lake County Hospital by a helicopter after park staff found it too difficult to reach the area by a four-wheel-drive vehicle. She was later transferred to Dunedin. Her condition was not available last evening.
