Vanload of gas bottles explodes
PA Auckland A van carrying gas cylinders yesterday exploded and burst into flames near Huntly after a head-on collision with a car on State highway 1. The van driver, Paul Mintrom, of Hamilton, was not seriously hurt, in spite of being hurled through the windscreen.
He suffered concussion and was reported in a satisfactory condition in Waikato Hospital last night The car driver was not hurt.
Te Kauwhata firemen put out the fire. Debris from the van, owned by Waikato Refrigeration Services, was scattered across the road. The accident occurred about 3 p.m. on the Ohinewai straight, about Bkm north of Huntly.
