N.Z. junior eight named
PA Hamilton Selectors have named the New Zealand junior rowing eight to race against Austrlia in May. The under-18 crew, which will row against the Australian juniors in back-to-back regattas in Canberra, will train for five weeks in Tauranga with the manager-coach, Bill Eaddy. Two scullers have also been named in the junior team.
The team is.— Eight: Sene Grant (North Shore), Luke van Velthoven (Wairau), Carl Vincent (Tauranga), Mike Burrell (Petone), Murray Jansen (North Shore), Geoff Cotter (Tauranga), Justin Aitcheson (North Shore), David Bullions (North Shore). Coxswain — Andrew Bird (Avon). Scullers: Mark Gardiner (Blenheim) and Nicki Payne (Wanganui). Forty-two rowers will compete in the national colts trials
to select a Senior B (under-23) team to row against Australia in the annual trans-Tasman competition oyer three regattas in Australia in August and September. Oarsmen will also compete in trials to choose a lightwegith coxless four, a women’s coxed four and two scullers. The women’s trials will start in Wanganui on April 24, the lightweights on April 25 and the colts on April 26.
