Gold medal to Canty junior thrower
Canterbury won one gold medal, three silver, and 11 bronze at the national under-18 and junior women’s athletic championships held at Hastings during the week-end. The title winner was Catherine Knowsley, who took the junior women’s javelin title with a best throw of 35.04 m.
Dougal Cockram was second in the 200 m (22.325), Steven Balderstone second in the 1500 m (4:03.15), and the Canterbury team was second in the 4 x 400 m relay. The team consisted of John Skurr, Derek Scott, Dougal Cockram, and Craig Galilee.
Skurr was third in the shot, with 12.93 m and the discus (44.64 m Paul Duncan won his bronze medal in the hammer throw with 43.70 m, and Barwyn Yee was third in the high jump with 1.85 m. The Canterbury team of Scott, Cockram, lan Lynskey, and Kevin Mulcahy was third in the 4 x 400 m relay.
Cockram was third in the 100 m, with a time of 11.01 s.
