Canty clerks vote
Clerical workers in the Canterbury Clerical Workers’ Union who work inf local bodies voted yesterday in favour of a proposed new association for local body workers.
About 60 attended the meeting and according to the acting secretary of the union, Mr Mike Smith, the vote, by a show of hands, was “decisive.” The union recommended that the members vote in favour of the union’s affiliating to the new association because it would give the union the chance to take part in establishing new policies and to provide greater protection for local body workers, said Mr Smith.
The Clerical Union would retain autonomy, but would give the new association
power to act on matters
affecting local body clerical workers. The Canterbury Local Body Officers (other than clerical) Union has already decided to affiliate to the new association, which will have about 10 unions from throughout New Zealand affiliated to it
