Boat race to Aucklanders
PA Auckland Twin V 8 motors and two brothers blasted their way through rough seas to win Saturday’s off-shore powerboat race on the Waitemata Harbour. Aucklanders Tom and Horace Manville surprised many by driving their 8.5 m boat Musketeer to a runaway win in the Mainline Cars 100 event.
In their first big win they powered the Musketeer across the Orakei Wharf finish line a clear five minutes ahead of the favourite off-shore powerboat championship title-holder, Graeme Horne, in E.I.T. Mover. Wraggs Quarterback, another twin outboard tunnel hull, was brought in third by Phillip Mills and Danny Whiting of Christchurch.
