PA rweisun Two men born on February 29 became fathers that day, the chances of which mathematicians yesterday calculated as being four in IQ million. Graham and Ella Martell!, of Takaka, have a son, Daniel, born at the Takaka Maternity Hospital at 12.40 ajn. on Wednesday. Mr Martelli celebrated the arrival of his son with his twenty-fourth birthday. Philip and Kay Grooby, of Motueka, also have aHjwn, as unnamed, who was born
at Nelson Hospital on Wednesday. Mr Grooby was 28 that day. The problem of calculating the odds of two men born on February 29 becoming fathers on that same day was put First to the Nelson Polytechnic mathematics section, which considered the odds impossible to calculate because parenthood these days is usually planned. However, the Nayland College mathematics department got its computer working and came ujUwith odds of four in 10 miloon. i
