How much will it cost? This will vary from the type of vehicle equipment and cylinder size. Generally the average 4-6 cylinder vehicle will cost around $l4OO-51600 for a standard installation. The following example enables you to calculate your annual savings assuming the petrol price to be 71 cents per litre, and the LPG price to be .42 cents per litre Example Your Figures A. Distance travelled per year 25,000 km per year km per year B. Petrol consumption rate 10 litres/100km litres/100 km C. Annual petrol consumption (Axß-?100) 2,500 litres litres D. Price of petrol (ex pump) 71 cents per litre . . cents per litre E. Annual petrol cost (CxD) $1,775 per year $ per year F. LPG consumption rate' 11 litres/100km litres/100 km G. Annual LPG consumption (AxF-r 100) 2,750 litres/year litres per year H. Price of LPG .42 cents per litre sper year I. Annual LPG cost (GxH) $1,155 per year sper year J. Annual savings (E-1) $620 per year sper year ‘The energy content of one litre of LPG is less than that of one litre of petrol in simple terms, 1 litre of petrol is approximately equivalent to 1 1 litres of LPG. How far can I go on a fill of LPG? This of course will depend on the size of the vehicle, the size of fuel cylinder fitted and how you drive. The advantage that LPG has over other gas fuels, is that it is contained at low pressue in the fuel cylinder as a liquid, and is turned back into a gas to provide power for the engine. This means LPG gives you longer range per fill and more gas volume for your boot space. An average 1600-2000 cc 4 cyl. vehicle achieving 10 km/l (28 mpg) on petrol, carrying 50 litres of LPG should achieve a range of 450 km on LPG (25.5 mpg). . PETROL ONE FILL 50 litres Range achievable 500 km LPG ONE FILL 50 litres Range achievable 450 km NOTE Because of the difference in the energy content between LPG and petrol, a 10% deficiency has been allowed for in the above calculation. Is LPG readily available? LPG is widely available throughout the North Island and its availability is rapidly increasing in the South Island. You will find LPG at many existing petrol outlets as well as specially developed LPG refuelling stations. Unlike natural gas which relies on a pipeline, LPG is distributed by ship, rail and road tankers to bulk storage tanks then to the refuelling stations. Therefore, its area of distribution is not restricted, enabling LPG outlets to be established throughout New Zealand. What makes up the LPG system? The typical LPG system is made up of the fuel cylinder, filling point, vaporiser, gas fuel mixer for the petrol carburettor, fuel change over switch, and petrol shut-off valve.
