United wins softball
The final of the inaugural Robert Brown Albion men’s softball classic at Middleton Park yesterday was won by A.G.C. United which beat Wilson Neill Richmond, 16-4.
The Albion tournament was played over three weeks with eight teams competing for prizemoney totalling $2300. The final, convincingly won by United, was not without incident. At the top of the first innings, United’s Tony
Mountford was removed from the game for barging at home plate as he endeavoured to convert a threebagger into a home run.
Down, 0-2, at the bottom of the first innings, Richmond took a 3-2 lead, but it was the last time it was ahead ■in the match as United batted powerfully to score an amazing four home runs in the match, Paul McFarlane getting two of them.
