Golf to Williamson
The Templeton summer golf open yesterday followed a similar pattern to last year, with the tournament being decided on the first extra hole. After 36 holes, John Williamson and Peter Heasley were tied on 148; but a par on the first play-off hole was good enough for Williamson, a national representative, to beat his youthful rival.
Paul Minifie, who was runner-up in the Waitikiri New Year open, was third on 149, one shot ahead of Joe Whitaker, who, in turn, had a stroke advantage over last year’s champion, James Angus. The intermediate championship went to George Turner on 155, by a shot from Stan Street. Tony Doherty took the junior title, with 159.
