Up to 400 expected for dinner
Preparation for the biggest charity Christmas dinner in Christchurch are under way. Up to 400 people are expected to attend the Anglican City Mission’s annual dinner, which caters mainly for the needy and the lonely. Preparations for it are already reaching “hectic” proportions, says the City Missioner, the Rev. David Morrell. The success of the fare depends largely on public goodwill and appeals are being made by the mission for voluntary help, and gifts of food and other items.
Storing the big amount of food before the event has posed a minor problem in the past, but the mission hopes to relieve this by acquiring a small refrigerator truck for the purpose. People wishing to help with the dinner event should telephone the City Mission office in Hereford Street.
