Concern about mining bill

PA Wellington The president of the Mineral Exploration Association, Mr J. Lawrey, said his association was “very concerned” about a continuing possibility of a moratorium on exploration prospecting and mining licences in the Thames-Coromandel district. The Thames-Coromandel District Mining Moratorium Bill had now become a dangerous nuisance, Mr Lawrey said.

“Its stated intention was too help implement a study of the environmental and social impacts of mining. It now constitutes the major stumbling block to get such a study under way,” he said.
