Traffic officer’s nose broken

PA Auckland A traffic officer’s nose was broken- and his face was cut in a struggle with a motorist who drove through a checkpoint in Auckland on Thursday night. Senior-Sergeaant Claude Soster, of the Ministry of Transport’s motorways unit, said the motorist drove through one checkpoint on the North Shore, tried to

avoid another round the corner, and was then trapped in a blind street by pursuing traffic officers.

The injured officer was treated in hospital and discharged. Senior-Sergeant Soster said the incident was the first such case in 550 stopchecks since Operation Checkpoint began on December 1.
