Defective cars not in New Zealand
None of the 250,000 Japanese cars to be recalled because of a defect are in New Zealand. The Honda, Toyota, and Isuzu cars were 1984
models, none of which had arrived in New Zealand yet, said the assistant service manager of Motorcorp, Mr Philip Short, from Wellington yesterday.
They have a defective voltage regulator in a new, compactly designed alternator which prevents the battery from charging pro-
perly. The minor fault would have been corrected by the time the first of the 1984 models arrived in New Zea- 1 land, said Mr Short.
More than 128,000 of the affected cars had already been sold in countries outside Japan, however. Toyota is recalling 67,500 defective vehicles sold
abroad, Honda, 60,000, and IsUzu, 600. The companies did not indicate which countries had received the cars.
