Passenger killed
Blenheim reporter A woman has died and two other women are in Wairau Hospital as a result of a car collision on Wednesday evening at the intersection of Nelson Street and Hutcheson Street, Blenheim. The dead woman was Elizabeth Horne Rutland, aged 79, of 62 Redwood Street, Blenheim.
Mrs Rutland was a passenger in a car driven by Gordon Percival Smart, aged 74, of 130 Muller Road, Blenheim. Mr Smart suffered broken ribs and is reported in a stable condi-
tion in Wairau Hospital. The other passengers in his car were Freda Mabel Cameron, of 145 Muller Road, and Jean Grigg, of 132 Muller Road, who suffered a fractured pelvis and leg. Her condition is reported as serious but stable. The driver of the other vehicle involved, a rental van, is Alan John Craves,
aged 27, a motorman of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Appleleaf, berthed at Picton. He and four passengers in the van were admitted to hospital with less serious injuries.
