Safe Air to lay off engineers
PA Blenheim The Blenheim-based airline and aircraft-part manufacturing company, Safe Air, Ltd, will make 18 of its engineering staff redundant soon. The staff cuts are in line with the company’s recently announced five-year recovery plan. Safe Air’s general manager, Mr Ron Tannock, said that agreement had been reached with the Engineers’ Union over the redundancies. Talks between management and union representatives would decide when the redundancies took effect. Mr Tannock said the latest redundancies were in addition to eight voluntary redundancies earlier in the Sir. He could not say if re would be further redundancies. Early in May an independent assessor, brought in at the request of the Engineers’ Union, said that Safe Air was in very poor shape and that there had to be redundancies.
