The Home and People section of your paper presented a picture of Manila with its magnificent hotels and restaurants, picturesque scenery and markets and its equally “picturesque” poverty. Quote: “Children dressed in spotless white were returning to their tiny shanty homes.” What is the reality in the Philippines?—Yours, etc ” pat McCarthy. September 22, 1983.
