PA Wellington Six petitions asking Parliament to reject the proposed amendments in the State Services Conditions of Employment Bill were presented when the House sat at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. Mr G. B. Braybrooke (Lab., Napier) presented a petition on behalf of A. H. Kahaki, of the Post Office workshops branch committee in Napier, and 23 others seeking the rejection of the proposed amendments. Similar petitions were presented by Mr lan McLean (Nat., Tarawera) on behalf of Colin John Keegan and 201 others and Mr G. W. F. Thompson (Nat., Horowhenua) on behalf of David Joseph Blundell, chairman of the Horowhenua sub-section of the Post Office Union, and 141 others.
Mr C. R. Marshall (Lab., Wanganui) presented a further petition on behalf of H. E. Wales and 438 others, and Mr G. E. Lee (Nat., Hauraki) presented a petition by R. H. Dalton, section secretary of the Thames section of the Post Office Union, and 149 others.
The Ministry of Transert’s annual report was bled.
Members gave 14 notices of motion. Ministers answered 21 questions. Debate on the reporting back of the Transport Amendment (No. 5) Bill was interrupted when the House adjourned for dinner at 5.30 p.m.
When the House resumed at 7.30 p.m., the Dunedin District Drainage and sewerage Amendment Bill received its second reading.
The Estimates debate resumed, the interruped debate on the education vote continuing.
