Three die, two hurt in crash
PA Wanganui Three people were killed and two injured in a twocar collision about 24km north of Waiouru on the Desert Road yesterday. Those killed were Barbara Ellen Hogan, aged 44, of Seatoun, Wellington, her son Paul Raymond Hogan, aged 15, and Stephen David Taylor, aged 15, of Seatoun. They were travelling south about 2.15 p.m. when the accident happened. In the, .north-bound car were a Woodville couple, George William Thomas, aged 75, who suffered minor injuries and his wife Pearl, aged 74 whose injuries, were moderate to serious, said Constable Bruce Foote, of Waiouru. Mr and Mrs Thomas were taken to Waiouru Camp Hospital, then transferred to Palmerston North Hospital. Their conditions were not available last evening.
Constable Foote said that the accident happened on a bend in a gully, and although it had been overcast with light rain, visibility was good. The crash blocked the road for about an hour.
