Workers are on call
A Christchurch man has begun an “on call” employment agency, offering employers skilled workers to fill positions within an hour. Mr Michael Ennis, who runs the agency from his home, says he has a wide range of skilled workers who are ready to respond at a moment’s notice.
He says the service he offers is welcomed by the unemployed because it saves them the trouble of having to queue for jobs for which they have no guarantee of getting. By being on Mr Ennis’s list they pay nothing but are assured of a job once he calls them. Mr Ennis says that the fee he charges the employer is less than that charged by other employment agencies because he has fewer overheads. His only stipulation is the that job must be of four hours or more duration.
