Family Movement conference
Mr Denis Sloane and Mrs Alison Weir, both of Christchurch, have been chosen to represent Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands at the international conference of the Christian Family Movement at Guadalajara, Mexico. They will leave for the conference next week and will present a workshop on solo parenthood, as well as studying the poverty of Latin American countries. The president of the Christian Family Movement Solo Parents Support Group in Christchurch, Mrs Margaret Grenfell, said Mr Sloane and Mrs Weir were chosen to attend the conference because the New Zealand group was regarded as being an expert in the field of solo parents. The cost of their trip is largely being met by the movement in the United States.
Mr Sloane and Mrs Weir are assistant social workers and leaders of the Christchurch group. They will return to Christchurch next month.
