N. Auckland thrashed

NZPA Brisbane David Hillhouse ended a five-year absence from representative rugby with an outstanding performance in Queensland’s 44-0 thrashing of a depleted North Auckland side at Ballymore yesterday. North Auckland never gave in, despite the avalanche of Queensland tries, but could not overcome the loss of three top players who went home to Saturday’s All Black trial in Wellington. Yesterday Hillhouse almost literally jumped his way back into the Australian XV by dominating the

line-outs throughout the game in a performance that impressed the three eager test selectors, John Bain, Bob Dwyer and Bob Templeton. Queensland’s backs made superb use of the overwhelming possession and scored six of the home side’s seven tries. The win justified the claim.of the captain, Tony Shaw, who said: “We are coming to the boil just at the right time.” Queensland plays Canterbury at Ballymore next Sunday with the inter-state series against New South Wales scheduled for June 5 and 11.
