Prop’s baptism of fire
PA Wanganui Rangi Kahukaka will have a baptism of fire when Wanganui meets the touring Lions at Spriggens Park, next Saturday. The 20-year-old Waverley council worker has played only six senior matches in his rugby career but has been named as prop for this, the first match of the Lions New Zealand tour. His selection is made more surprising by the fact that Saturday’s match will
be only his second as prop at any level. The team is: Tom Fearn, Derek Brooks, Shawn Crowley, Steve Gordon, Martin O’Connell, Murray Kendrick, Andrew Donald, Rod Parsons, Bruce Middleton (capt), Graeme Colman, Michael Wild, Peter Stratton, Brent Dallison, Larry Graham, Rangi Kahukaka. Reserves — Backs: Geoff Kawau, Kelvin Chase, Jimmy Barker. Forwards: Steve Boobyer, Denis Koubaridis, John Karatau.
