Aircraft fault found
Problems in the attachment of the nose wheel to the main structure of a Mount Cook Line aircraft caused the emergency at Christchurch Airport on Thursday. The general manager of the Mount Cook Line, Mr P. S. Phillips, said the problem was located yesterday and repair work had , begun. The Hawker Siddeley with 53 people aboard made an emergency landing oh an unlocked nose wheel on Thursday at 2 p.m. Mr Phillips said a full report would be sent to the manufacturer of the aircraft. “It seems to be a problem unique to this aircraft,”’ he said. Mr Phillips said there r were some. stresses to the airframe and it was not known how long it would be before the aircraft was back in the air.
