Car cut in half by train
A car was cut in two and its four occupants injured when it and the Southerner train collided north of Timaru yesterday afternoon. The collision occurred at the level-crossing on Dominion Road, Seadown, at 4.30 p.m. while the car was travelling east and the Southerner was travelling north. Three of the car’s occupants suffered serious injuries and were admitted to Timaru Hospital. They are Mrs Susan Shannon, of Temuka; her son, Richard, aged seven; and her sister, Mrs Julie Curtis, of Timaru. The three were reported in a satisfactory condition last evening. The fourth occupant of the car, Mrs Shannon’s elder son, Scott, aged nine, was treated at the hospital and discharged. The train was delayed for an hour but no one aboard was injured.
