Sales total down
PA Wellington Retail sales last January were 1.4 per cent down on those during January, 1982, according to the Statistics Department’s monthly survey.
Sales last January totalled $1185.1 million, compared with $1201.4 million in the previous January.
Falls in sales were recorded by furniture shops (down from $38.3 million), automotive fuel and repair sales ($477.7M to $431.9M), and restaurants and takeaways ($49.3M to $46.9M). All other categories of retail sales remained the same for the corresponding months or showed an increase.
