Woman dies in bed fire
PA Invercargill A woman died when her bed apparently’ caught fire as she slept at her Mataura home early yesterday. She was Joan Sylvia Kirk, aged 50, a housewife. Mrs Kirk's husband was awakened about 1 a.m. to find the house full of smoke. When he went to his wife’s bedroom he found her bed on fire. He pulled her from the bed but she was dead when the Mataura Volunteer Fire Brigade arrived. The fire is not being treated as suspicious by the police.
