Nuclear weapons

Sir,—The appearance of David Taylor’s article on the report, “The Church and the Bomb” is timely. As a result, one anticipates that the opponents of the Bishopspark retirement village, will, with equal energy, but greater urgency, organise discussion groups, and petitions, to ban the bomb, and end the mad

armaments race, thus freeing billions of dollars to house the homeless, feed the hungry, etc. Nuclear warfare threatens life as we know it, and in such an event there will be no need to concern ourselves with the future of any building, of whatever value or treasure. Or is this issue classified political in which the Church should not dabble, but rather confine itself to squabbling through your columns, as to where its Bishop should or should not live.—Yours, etc., ALAN MA YELL. March 14, 1983.
