DEPARTMENT OF FOOD AND FASHION BASIC BARTENDER’S SEMINAR: A short course of 3 days’ duration for persons interested in learning, improving and extending their knowledge and skills in licensed premises. Topics to include: beer systems, public and house bar operations including the making of cocktails, the law and the bartender, and basic hygiene principles. Commences Tuesday, 1 March. FOOD & BEVERAGE MANAGEMENT SEMINAR (STAGE ONE): A short course of 5 days’ duration for persons interested in a wide variety of subjects related to the tourist industry. Topics to include: industrial relations, current and future trends, staff selection, induction and development, security of premises and fire prevention, meat selection, basic hygiene and first aid principles, new technology, cost controls and wine evaluation. Commences Monday, 21 March. DEPARTMENT OF MACHINE TOOL ENGINEERING MANUAL AND COMPUTER ASSISTED PART-PROGRAMMING FOR NUMERICALLY CONTROLLED MACHINE TOOLS: This course will allow students to program component parts using the FANUC P-D micro computer system and the FAPT programming language. Initial emphasis will be placed on manual part-programming to allow the student to check and validate the NC output from the computer. The course will then involve programming using FAPT - Editor. Tracer, Turn, Symbolic Turn, Mill, Symbolic Mill (when available), Die and Cut. A certificate will be issued on completion of the course. BASIC ENGINEERING: Bench Work, Metal Turning, Milling and Shaping: Are you an adult, 18 years or over, who wishes to gain experience in the above skills?
