PA Auckland It was wrong to say that private television was not prepared to risk its own capital, said the chairman of Northern Television, Ltd, Mr H. M. Horton, yesterday.

He was reacting to a comment made by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Lange, about private operators of morning television.

Mr Lange said that it was appalling that the private sector was getting access to public assets without risking its own capital. Northern Television, Mr Horton said, had facilities worth $8 million ready now to provide programmes, but it was required to use Television New Zealand’s transmission system. “That is not our wish. Our long-term aim is to own our own transmission equipmentfor regional television and to leave the Broadcasting Corporation intact. “Mr Lange knows that, and his colleagues know that." Mr Horton said.
