Town Hall to offer heavy discounts
Discounts on hiring the Christchurch Town Hall function rooms have been approved by the Town Hall Board. In an effort to encourage more use of the rooms the board introduced, on a sixmonth trial, reduced hiring rates where catering costs exceeded $lOOO. A 25 per cent discount will be given where catering costs exceed $lOOO. and a 50 per cent discount where costs exceed $2OOO. No hire charge will be made when catering costs exceed $3OOO. Councillor A. B. Harman said that the Town Hall was not in full use. “We have to do something
more than just a . halfway measure to attract use of the rooms. We have lost about $25,000 because of this." he said. Discounts will also apply to wedding receptions where the bar and catering facilities are required. The Town Hall manager. Major J. D. Carson, said that in spite of considerable promotion there was only seven wedding receptions in 1981 and 10 in 1982. He said that he would get in touch with couples who had become engaged in the last four to five months and advise them of the facilities available for wedding receptions.
