N.Z. in strong position
New Zealand is in a particularly strong position to press forward towards victory over Australia after the first day of the second under--25 women's cricket “test” at Hagley Park. It is a rare day indeed that any Australian cricket XI is dismissed for 64 runs, but the outstanding bowling deeds of Shona Gilchrist and Sue Brown caused such a demise in the Australian batting. By stumps New Zealand had forged further ahead to achieve a lead of 73 runs with four wickets in hand. Ingrid Jagersma and Brown will resume this morning, their unfinished partnership
of 39 runs having already exceeded all others. AUSTRALIA First innings L Albon lbw b 8r0wn.... 11 R. Knox c and b Brown . 0 T. Dawson run out ..... . 13 K. Read c Connell b Gilchrist. 5 L.
