‘Look after my bag, please’
NZPA london Four New Zealand diplomats climbed aboard a Dub-lin-bound plane on Wednesday self-consciously clutching mysterious paper bags. It was not duty-free drink, and they were not taking their own butter as a protest at Irish intransigence in the E.E.C. “Please look after it,” one of the diplomats asked the stewardess as he handed her his bag. “I don’t want it to get squashed.” Inside the bags were four black silk top hats for Ambassador W. L. Young and his three colleagues to wear when he presented his credentials to the President of Ireland, Mr Patrick Hillery, yesterday. Mr Young who wears the Ambassador’s hat as well as being High Commissioner to London, is making his first official visit to the republic.
