Ranfurly Shield
Sir,—While I see no objection to the Ranfurly Shield being shown to the public, including the schoolboys in your photograph of November 20, and handled by all and sundry, I would appeal to the Canterbury Rugby Union to have the shield looked after carefully. Only last year it was necessary for the Wellington Rugby Union to make repairs to the trophy when dents were straightened and details of the holders made more clear on the shield. As we are aware this historical trophy dates from the beginning of the century and was presented by the Governor, Lord Ranfurly, for. competition by the provincial rugby teams of New Zealand. Canterbury must certainly be pleased and proud to have in its possession this famous trophy which will bring it considerable profits but it must also ensure that the shield be handed back in due course to the successful challenger in the *
same condition as received from Wellington.—Yours, etc., C. PRATLEY. November 23, 1982.
