Guinness looks the best chance for Woodville stables at the Wellington meeting tomorrow. He worked soundly ‘in 'his final trial yesterday morning. The half-brother to Shamrock is in the Houghton Handicap at Trentham and will be ridden by Garry Phillips. Guinness is going for his fourth win on end.
Working on the course proper, which was fast, Guinness was allowed to start behind Royal Time at the 800 m. They ran from there in 53.35, the last 600 in 37.55, with Guinness showing out at the post. Chameau Vite started ahead of Ida and held her advantage over 1000 m in Imin 4.25, the last 600 in 37.75. A maiden -winner’ at Woodville, Chameau Vite lines up in the Linden Handicap, while Ida is in the last.
Shamrock and Cabinet took Imin 8.7 s for 1000 m, the final 600 in 40s. Shamrock was having his second workout since returning from Australia. He may resume in the open sprint on the second day at Trentham next Wednesday. Belmore required lmin4s for the last 1000 m of his work. He appears to have taken no harm from his Wanganui run. Janine went 1000 m in Imin 5.65, the last 600 in 38.65.
The Wellington candidate, Chatterley Lass, strode over 1400 in Imin 34.55, the final 600 in 395. Glenmana and Cuchulainn went well when they recorded Imin 15.2 s for 1200 m. Ngaio was timed to run the last 600 m of her work in 37.25.
Saunter, which is being prepared for the Avondale Cup, galloped the reverse way. She took imin 18.3 s for 1200 m, the final 600 in 37.75.
