Barkla suspended
PA Hamilton Cambridge jockey Gary Barkla was suspended up to and including today at an adjourned inquiry held at TeRapa earlier this week. Barkla, the rider of Midnight Magic in the Kalgoorlie Handicap at Te Rapa last Saturday, was charged with causing interference to Pride of Rosewood (Chris McNab). The Waikato Racing Club’s judicial committee found the charge proved. Barkla will miss the Cambridge Jockey Club’s meeting on the Te Rapa course today. McNab was fined $75 for failing to attend the race-day inquiry. He pleaded guilty to the charge. David Walsh, Mark McCrossan and Grant Cooksley were also charged under the same rule for failing to attend an inquiry into the running of the Malcolm One Thousand.
Cooksley was fined $5O, while the charges against Walsh and McCrossan have been deferred until today. At a further inquiry Tony Williams, the rider of Stag in the Champion Stayers’ handicap, was fined $5O. He had been charged with careless riding causing interference to Admiral’s Cup (Dan Southworth).
