University roll challenge
PA Wellington Victoria University of Wellington and the University of Otago are competing to attract students. In a brochure planned by its students, the Wellington University says the campus is in New Zealand's most attractive city. Victoria's decision to enter the self-promotion business came as a reaction to Otago's campaign to attract North Island students. Otago has put together a promotional package to go to secondary schools and is offering 200 annual $4OO travel bursaries for. North Island students. The money for the bursaries came from a bequest. Victoria’s information officer, Mr Lindsay Wright, said yesterday that the university’s publicity committee would meet soon to consider some “upmarket promotional material” for intending students. The University of Canterbury will not follow suit, however. Its information officer, Mr E. T. Beardsley, said last evening that Canterbury was “not planning to do anything more than it has been doing.”
