Bathroom scales to rescue
It was bathroom scales to the rescue at Rangiora yesterday. because of the discovery of an inaccuracy in the official scales used for weighing out the jockeys. The start of the day’s programme was put back about 25 minutes when the fault in the official scales was discovered. After the majority of riders had weighed out for the first event, the Owners and Trainers’ Maiden No 1, it became apparent that the deficiency for each rider was about three kilograms. The scales had been checked before the meeting so it was suspected that someone had tampered, with them during the week-end. The situation was solved by an enterprising steward of the club who dashed home and brought back his bathroom’ scales. The replacement set was used until a technician from Christchurch arrived .
